Any Rasputina fans here? They're about to release a new album called "Frustration Plantation" on March 16 and I'm dying to hear it.

If you haven't heard of them, they're difficult to categorize. They are a cello-rock group, aka neoclassicalgrunge aka modern chamber music... well whatever you call them they are unique and have a style all their own. Some songs are delicate while others incorporate distortion and sometimes a bit of mixing, on newer songs. Lyrically, they are enchanting. Melora sings about historical events and people, her own fictional characters, and other things.

I just got to see them live in November and the show was absolutely stunning.
They are playing in NY on the 11th.

For more info about them or the new album you should visit:

warped. [29 Jul 2003|11:39am]

warped tour was decent here, i had a good time. alot of rain and alot of sun, dispersed in uneven batches throughout the day... Yellowcard, Tsunami Bombs, dropkick murphies, story of the year, plain white t's, afi...i'd say those were the best bands that i saw. it really annoys me when the bands try and talk the crowd up too much. when they spend half their set rambling about pointless shit and doing the usual *you're the best crowd we've seen yet* sort of thing it gets old...fast. some people seem to like it when the bands are trying to get the crowd going alot...i'd rather if they just played good music instead of talking.

i don't know how many people like Thrice, but they seem like a decent band to me. They just released their new album ‘The Artist in the Ambulance’ on July 22 on Island Records. It's their first album on a major record label.

thrice = sold out?

who saw them at warped tour?

The Emo Game [24 Jul 2003|11:42pm]

oiboy
The ultimate in emo-entertainment for those with a long attention span and appetite for killing hoards of demons and those godawful pop-punk bands. If you have a hankering to kill Simple Plan or that hungry, hungry Kelly Osbourne, this game will entertain you for hours...No exaggeration..it will literally take hours. Be sure to play both emo games, 1 and 1.5. Emo Game 1 is the longer of the two, and has appearances by several emo bands. Emo Game 1.5 is a mini-game although equally fun. Stop reading, get playing....

girlies [24 Jul 2003|02:51am]

bands with female singers are few and far between, and decent one's are fewer yet. The Rocking Horse Winner...sadly no longer together, has some excellent songs... any song by them is worthy of downloading. Usually lumped into the genre of emo...they toured with brandtson and dashboard confessional. RHW's singer did accompanying vocals on two dashboard albums i believe.

Rilo Kiley...a simply wonderful band, beautiful vocals. Paint's Peeling is my favorite song by them.

Rainer Maria, also another good band. All their songs are good.

Cruiserweight...wonderful band, pop-punk sounds...

Pretty Girls Make Graves...WOW, amazing band, even more amazing live. It's rare that a band is better on stage than on cd, but PGMG managed to pull that off with ease.

Azure Ray - great songs...november is especially good.

Cat Power, good band also.

Tegan and Sara...super band, nice voice and original sound.

The nice thing about bands with female vocalists is they manage to all have a unique sound. There's other bands i won't bother mentioning such as the donnas...very unorignal, nothing spectacular there.

don't forget pinback! [24 Jul 2003|02:59am]

i might as well reccomend the band ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, too. Instrumentally, they are incredibly talented: they switch instruments on stage and on their albums frequently. Lyrically, they're very interesting. Looks-wise, they are hot -- and also very different. (not that that's important at all, but still, i'm tryin' to cater to the masses here.)

Plus, the name is great. Called "Trail of Dead" for short (or ToD), the name is supposedly from an excerpt of a Mayan prayer for a harvest festival.

Consisting of Conrad Keely (<3), Kevin Allen, Jason Reece, and Neil Busch, they have an extremely diverse sound. Although every band has their own unique "taste" to them, most of their songs sound quite different from each other. Although this makes it hard to like everything they put out there, you can also appreciate how they're not stuck in one category.

From the self-titled album, download Gargoyle Waiting (the beginning of the song is not to my liking, but it changes pace drastically) or Fake Fake Eyes.

From the "Madonna" album, download Blight Takes All, Perfect Teenhood, Mark David Chapman or Sigh Your Children. They all sound different from one another. If you don't like any of those, download Clair de Lune.

From "Source Tags & Codes", download How Near How Far, It Was There That I Saw You, or Another Morning Stoner. Then get the song Homage just to make a comparsion.
